# Open protocols should make participation easier

Shared interfaces are promising. A small business still needs a useful service, clear permissions and a tested integration.

## Why shared interfaces matter

Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol in November 2024 as an open standard connecting AI systems with data sources and tools. The important idea for a business owner is that shared interfaces can reduce the need for a different custom connection for every application.

That is a direction we support. If a business can describe an approved capability once and make it available through a compatible interface, more useful connections may become possible. Compatibility still has to be verified for the actual systems involved.

## A protocol is not the whole product

Imagine a service that lets an assistant request an event quote. The interface still needs to specify the required information, the permission to submit it, the meaning of the response and what happens on failure. A protocol name does not answer those operating questions.

It also does not prove that a website’s ordering provider offers an API, permits third-party automation or supports a particular action. We would verify the ordering system separately from the website platform, then scope only the capabilities that are documented and authorized.

## Keep the starting point practical

Small businesses should not need to follow every protocol announcement to make progress. A stable menu page, clear coverage rules and a dependable inquiry route are useful groundwork. They give an eventual integration accurate information and a concrete job to perform.

Welvia’s view is to build from that business workflow outward. Add a protocol when it makes an approved action easier to connect and maintain. Keep the owner’s ability to review, correct and stop the workflow intact. The aim is participation with manageable complexity, not collecting technology badges.

## One thing to try

Ask what an integration lets a customer do, what permission it needs and how its outcome will be verified.
